MINISTER & INFORMATION: What to expect when you come to Church
Greetings from the Minister
Rev Andrew Sellwood MA Hello, we are delighted you have found our website. We want to have the opportunity to welcome you to our church community… We believe that God really loves people, and that He wants each of us to have a close relationship with Him. Goring United Reformed Church [GURC] hopefully connects people with each other, so that together we can connect with God. Each Sunday we grow closer through our worship and after the service stay a while for coffee and a chat together. One Sunday each month we share Holy Communion, again a time of unity. As we do these things spiritual growth and new friendships naturally happen! During the week there are opportunities to participate in both spiritual and social activities. Welcome: You are very welcome to attend whoever you are and whatever your stage might be on the Christian journey. You can sit where you wish – Nobody has a reserved seat ! You can expect to find about 65-70 attending. We meet for our main Sunday morning service at 10.30. It is a time for all - families, Junior Church and children of all ages. See also right. First time or Recent Church attender: This may be your first time in church after a number of years, or you may have moved into the area from another church. You may be on holiday or a visitor, or it may be that you have never been to a church service before – that’s just fine – we all started at some time ! You will be in a very relaxed atmosphere. Please make yourself known to us before you leave. Refreshments: Tea, Coffee, Squash and biscuits are served after the service. Holy Communion: We share a service of Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the month to which all are invited to attend and share in the communion of bread and wine. Service duration and Dress code: During our time together which lasts for about an hour, there is a children’s talk, a talk or sermon for the grown-ups. We do not have a dress code. Some come casually dressed while others come more smartly dressed. The choice is yours, however you come you will be most welcome. Music and Songs: We sing songs and hymns mostly from our hymn book [Mission Praise] but all are projected on the screen. We generally have one or two Bible readings, times of prayer . You are free to stand or sit as you wish. We celebrate Holy Communion on the 1st Sunday in the month. All are invited, adults and children. Depending on the song either the pipe organ or piano is used. |

Rev Andrew Sellwood MA the minister at here at Goring shates his ministry with Sompting United Reformed Church
We encourage people to ask questions. All of us need to discover truths about God and about life in general. Our church is a very mixed church, and we welcome people of all backgrounds and all ages. The worship style varies according to the leader but we hope everyone will be blessed through it. ....... GURC is the kind of church that welcomes people wherever they are on their faith journey. If you have been coming to church for years and have perhaps drifted away a little or whether you are just testing the water you are welcome. If you have recently moved into the area or have lived here all your life and wondered what goes on in that building opposite the Leisure Centre come and see. |
Church doesn’t have to be boring!
We try to make our meetings Warm – Friendly – Fun – Casual – Encouraging & Powerful… We sing together, learn to pray together, and study life truths from the Bible together. In this way, we discover God’s plan for us through the Holy Spirit’s leading in our lives. We encourage you to come on over and join us, we’d love to get to know you. |
